Packing smart will ensure you’re comfortable, prepared, and able to fully enjoy your safari and cultural experiences. Here’s a suggested packing list tailored for both scheduled group trips and custom itineraries with Worldwide Adventures:
Clothing
- Lightweight, breathable safari clothes (neutral colors like khaki, beige, olive green – avoid bright or dark blue in tsetse fly areas)
- Long-sleeved shirts and pants for sun and insect protection
- T-shirts or quick-dry tops
- A warm fleece or jacket for cool mornings and evenings
- Light rain jacket or poncho (especially during shoulder seasons)
- Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots
- Flip-flops or sandals for lounging at lodges
- Swimwear (some lodges and hotels have pools)
- Wide-brimmed hat or cap
- Sunglasses
Travel Essentials
- Daypack or small backpack
- Soft duffel bag or lightweight suitcase (some light aircraft flights have weight limits)
- Refillable water bottle
- Travel towel or quick-dry towel
- Flashlight or headlamp (for camps and lodges)
- Binoculars (for wildlife viewing)
- Camera, phone, chargers, and extra memory cards
- Universal travel adapter (Type G, D, or M plugs depending on country)
Toiletries & Personal Care
- Sunscreen (SPF 30+)
- Insect repellent (DEET or natural-based)
- Lip balm
- Hand sanitizer & wet wipes
- Personal medications & Pain-relievers + copies of prescriptions
- Basic first-aid kit (band-aids, pain relievers, etc.)
- Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.) – eco-friendly preferred

- Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates)
- Printed visas or e-visa confirmations
- Yellow fever certificate (if required)
- Travel insurance documents

💡 Bonus Tips:
- Layer your clothing: Mornings and evenings can be chilly even in hot destinations.
- Leave camouflage clothing at home – it’s restricted in some countries.
- Luggage weight: Check if your internal flights have a soft bag and weight limit (typically 15kg/33 lbs).
- Laundry: Many lodges offer laundry services at a fee, so you can pack light.
PLEASE NOTE: Plastic bags of any sort are not permitted in Kenya & Tanzania. Please do not pack in plastic bags or bring them for wet clothing.
In Tanzania, this ban also applies to duty-free bags from items purchased on your trip to Tanzania. Per the requirements by airlines for carry-on liquids, one quart-size plastic bag per person is permitted.
